Phase changes in dental amalgams at higher temperatures (in Czech)

Abstract
Two commercially available dental amalgams are studied with respect to microstructural and phase changes during exposition at higher temperatures as compared with the temperature in the mouth. High-copper amalgam Ana 2000 was found to be more thermally stable than low-copper amalgam Safargam. Transformation of gamma-1 phase was observed only in the amalgam Safargam. Mercury released during this phase change reacts with silver-rich particles forming new amalgamation products. Evaporation of certain amount of mercury from amalgam surface is expected.
