Abstract
The ductile-shear-failure surfaces of amorphous metallic materials obtained under uniaxial tension and pressure loading conditions had a similar morphology. Extremal spatial and time localization of the plastic deformation during the catastrophic shear results in a local heating of this region and a possible presence of a "liquid-like" layer at the moment of rupture. The shear band width in an amorphous-alloy ribbon was estimated by a fractographic analysis (~5 nm).

Key words
