Abstract
The paper presents some results of selected research works from Research Institute for Metals. New alloys with combining good electrical conductivity and strength as replacement of Cu wires and strips were developed. The hot rolling process of cast ingots and the solidification of continuously cast Al-strips and their influence on the properties of the final products were studied. The major research capacity during the last 20 years was aimed at improving the toughness and the fatigue characteristics of Al-Cu-Mg alloy with detailed studies of the microstructure through the whole production cycle, of the influence of the extrusion, and of the heat treatment parameters. The results were particularly used for the development of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu and Al-Li alloys for aircraft industry.
